Ifeoma Chukwuogo’s Phoenix Fury is set to screen at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in California, running from October 9 to 12, 2025. This marks its first major appearance on the global festival stage since securing Best Film and Best Director at the 2024 Africa International Film Festival.
The film, Chukwuogo’s feature debut, earned praise for its confident storytelling and strong performances. Featuring Onyinye Odokoro, Uzoamaka Power, Joseph Momodu, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Ama K. Abebrese, the drama follows Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana. Her quiet new life unravels when Yali, a Nigerian governor, becomes a disruptive guest.
Celebrating its 16th year, SVAFF will showcase 94 films from 30 countries across Africa and the diaspora, with Nigeria taking a prominent spot in the line-up. Alongside Phoenix Fury, Nigerian titles include Omotola Jalade Ekeinde’s Mother’s Love, James Omokwe’s Osamede, Holmes Awa’s Soft Love, Ella Chikezie’s In Her Shoes, Abbesi Akhamie’s The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí, Shedrack Salami’s Beyond Olympic Glory, Bibi Shasore’s Loot and the Lost Kingdoms of Africa, Femi Balujaye and Emmanuel Oluwaseyi Bajulaye’s Ekun Omi (Tears of Desert Water), and Silas Ese Abada’s Reach for the Stars.
