Nne, a short film by Nigerian filmmaker Thecla Uzozie (Chidinma Uzozie), has been officially selected for the 2025 Milwaukee Illuminate Film Festival (MIFF). The film will screen on September 7 at the Avalon Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Earlier this year, Nne was showcased at Nolly Femme in honour of International Women’s Day, with support from Multichoice Talent Factory and Zee World. MIFF confirmed the selection on August 13 via Instagram, adding the film to its shorts programme.
The psychological drama centres on Sarah Okoh, a new mother grappling with postpartum psychosis after enduring relentless pressure from her mother-in-law to produce a male child. The film delves into the emotional and mental struggles women face in the wake of childbirth.
The cast features Michael Ejoor (To Kill a Monkey), Bukola Thomas (The Intern), and Jasmine Howson-Wright Ekumah.
With its U.S. premiere, Nne expands its festival run and represents Nigeria on an international stage once again.
