AMVCA 2026 Opens Submissions, Expands Categories to Boost Continental Inclusion

Submissions are now open for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), marking another major moment for African film and television. The entry window runs from January 11 to February 15, 2026, giving filmmakers and content creators across the continent the opportunity to showcase their work.

This year’s edition is backed by Don Julio as headline sponsor, a partnership the organisers say reflects AMVCA’s continued growth into a premium cultural platform that celebrates African creativity, excellence, and craftsmanship.

The AMVCA recognises achievements across film, television, and digital content, with entries welcomed from across Africa. The 2026 awards will feature a total of 32 categories, made up of 18 jury-decided awards and 11 audience-voted categories. Returning highlights include the Trailblazer Award, alongside two Special Recognition Awards honouring lifetime contributions to the industry.

In a notable expansion, the organisers have introduced two new categories: Best Indigenous Language – North Africaand Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa. These additions further broaden the awards’ scope, building on existing recognition for works from East, West, and Southern Africa, and reinforcing the AMVCA’s commitment to inclusivity.

Eligible submissions must have been produced, aired, or publicly exhibited between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Feature-length films are required to have screened in cinemas, aired on television, or been released on streaming platforms. Entrants must submit full preview copies exactly as broadcast or screened and complete their applications via the official online submission portal.

Organised by MultiChoice, a subsidiary of Canal+, the AMVCA continues to celebrate outstanding storytelling across Nollywood and the wider African creative industry. The 12th edition of the awards is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026, with further details expected to be announced in the coming months.
