Editi Effiong and Nicky Weinstock Team Up for The Black Book 2 Old Scores

Everything We Know About The Black Book 2

The gritty world of Paul Edima is expanding. Following the massive success of the Nigerian thriller The Black Book, Editi Effiong and Hollywood producer Nicky Weinstock are officially reuniting for the sequel, titled Old Scores.

The project is a joint venture between Effiong’s Anakle Films and Weinstock’s Invention Studios, signaling a continued push to bring high-octane African narratives to a global stage.

The Plot: Justice and Unrest

Picking up precisely where the first film’s explosive finale left off, Old Scores follows Paul Edima as he deepens his crusade against the systemic corruption plaguing Nigeria. While the first film was a personal journey of a father seeking justice, the sequel promises a wider lens.

According to the production team, the film will explore:

• Societal Unrest: Capturing the pulse of contemporary Nigerian life.

• Deepened Themes: Moving beyond simple revenge into complex ideas of redemption.

• A Movement, Not Just a Movie: Effiong describes the project as an affirmation of African voices shaping the future of global cinema.

A Powerhouse Collaboration

The partnership between Effiong and Weinstock bridges the gap between Nollywood and Hollywood. Weinstock, whose resume includes the AppleTV+ hit Severance and the action-comedy Thelma, is vocal about the caliber of African filmmaking.

“It’s a phenomenal time for African and international creators to be delivering work at the quality level of traditional Hollywood and actually beyond,” Weinstock noted, highlighting the “game-changing” potential of the sequel.

Expanding the Nigerian Portfolio

Interestingly, The Black Book 2 is only one part of Weinstock’s growing investment in Nigerian stories. He is also behind Clarissa, a modern retelling of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway set in Nigeria. That project boasts a heavy-hitting cast including:

• Sophie Okonedo

• David Oyelowo

• Ayo Edebiri

What’s Next?

As first-look images begin to circulate, the buzz around Old Scores suggests that the team is aiming to surpass the record-breaking benchmarks set by the original. With Effiong back in the director’s chair and writing the script, fans can expect the same meticulous attention to detail and visceral action that made the first film a breakout hit.
