The YANGÁ Vanguard is an elite collective of writer-thinkers, photographers, critics, illustrators, and scene-makers committed to documenting the pulse of new cultures.
A project of the J. Randle Centre for Yorùbá Culture & History, YANGÁ Vanguard archives contemporary street intelligence, subcultures, artistic practices, and future imaginaries—from Lagos, across Africa, and into its diasporas.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are selecting 20 participants, aged 19–36, for a 10-day, full-day, in-person intensive retreat in Lagos.
Participants will be guided by seasoned facilitators through workshops, discussions, and editorial development, culminating in a paid publication opportunity with YANGÁ Journal, a forthcoming quarterly culture publication.
HOW SELECTION WORKS
Week 1:
Final selection process. Applicants must pass a comprehensive assessment to advance.
Week 2:
Publication-focused pitch retreat. Successful pitches will be commissioned for publication.
